Academics
Academic Calendar
Create academic events, closures, holidays, and exam breaks that appear over timetable and attendance planning.
Calendar purpose
The academic calendar records school-wide or department-specific dates that affect normal teaching activity. Use it for academic events, closures, exam breaks, holiday-type events, and other timetable overlays.
- Create calendar items before staff build or review timetable plans for that period.
- Use clear titles because they appear in calendar and timetable context.
- Deactivate old items instead of deleting them when they explain historical timetable decisions.
Calendar item setup
- 1Open the academic calendar area and choose New Item.
- 2Choose the item type: holiday, exam break, event, or closure.
- 3Select the match mode that fits the date pattern.
- 4Enter the start date and end date. For single-day items, the end date follows the start date.
- 5Choose full day or enter start and end times for partial-day events.
- 6Save the item, then review timetable and attendance screens that fall inside the date range.
| Match mode | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Single day | The item happens on one date only. |
| Date range | The item covers a continuous start-to-end range. |
| Selected weekdays in range | The item repeats only on chosen weekdays during the range. |
| Every day in range | Every date in the range should be treated as covered. |
Department scope
Calendar items can apply to all departments or only selected departments. Department scope helps a school record events such as a science lab closure without affecting unrelated classes.
- Use all departments for school-wide academic events, full campus closures, holiday-type events, and major events.
- Use selected departments for department trips, lab closures, exam windows, or program-specific events.
- Check department assignment on courses, students, and rooms when a calendar item seems missing from a filtered view.
Announcements
When a calendar item needs communication, create an announcement from the calendar form. This keeps the schedule record and the user-facing notice aligned.
Review before announcing
Confirm the date range, department scope, and priority before sending an announcement. Calendar edits do not always mean every recipient has read the updated notice.
